Spark drilling machine (EDM) is a kind of EDM machine which uses the principle of EDM to process holes less than 5mm in size. It is used to process small and medium-sized punching dies. Its processing feature is not limited by the hardness of metal materials. The required hole type can be processed by this machine after quenching the template, so as to ensure the quality and improve the service life. The tool electrode materials are steel, cast iron and copper.
There are two types of puncher according to different media used. One is liquid perforator. Since liquid processing needs to pass through copper rod small hole, it may block copper rod small hole, so it can process 0.15mm small hole at least, and the depth can only process 350mm. It is widely used, and the other is the gas perforator. The medium passing through the small hole of copper rod uses gas, so it is not easy to be blocked, and can process more precise holes.
EDM spark drilling machine can be used in tool and mold manufacturing industry, aviation and aerospace industry, machine tool manufacturing industry, glass industry, automobile manufacturing and pharmaceutical industry. The main applications can be primary drilling, nozzle holes, exhaust holes (such as casting molds in automobile industry), cooling holes in plastic tools and vacuum holes in turbine shovels.
Compared with the traditional piercing process, the advantages of EDM are obvious. In the range of 0.10 ~ 3.0 mm (from 10 mm to 10 mm in special cases), mechanical piercing is completely replaced by EDM. The advantage is that time and cost can be greatly saved because such phenomena as tool breakage, tool passivation and tool grinding will not occur again. EDM can ensure the high accuracy of the hole diameter, the perpendicularity and cylindricity of the hole, and no burr and deviation. Hardened steel can also be processed by EDM. Therefore, it can avoid the quenching deformation of the traditional plate which is pierced first and then quenched. Even difficult to cut materials (such as tungsten, titanium, Inconel, nickel base alloy, stainless steel alloy and molybdenum) can be processed. With Heun EDM machine tool, the workpiece surface can be entered at a very steep angle and the unknown void can be eroded. The whole process is accurate and controllable, without the need to set the precise perforation depth in advance.
